Neither rain nor snow nor … well, it’s October, so let’s stick with the just plain wet stuff.
Whatever the case, runners and walkers were undeterred by chilly precipitation on the morning of Oct. 12 to take part in the Peters Township Chamber of Commerce’s 11th annual Chamber Chase along the Arrowhead Trail, starting near Peterswood Park.
Some were bundled as if for the Iditarod. Others wore pretty much what they usually wear to go for a jog. And one intrepid soul was sans shirt.
They all took off at the signal given by chamber executive director Brian Schill for five kilometers of moving at their own pace, toward the heart of the township and back.
At the halfway mark, Peters Township School District Superintendent Jeannine French joined local Girl Scouts in offering water to those on the go.
And when they returned, they were greeted by a hearty breakfast donated and prepared by Greg Gold of Miller’s Ace Hardware, who spent the morning cooking on a grill just outside of the township Community Recreation Center.
Inside, chamber of commerce operations coordinator Kelley Keane joined chamber members and other volunteers to make sure everyone was registered and that everything proceeded smoothly.
The Chamber Chase benefits the Peters Township Chamber of Commerce Community and Scholarship Fund, with some of the money going to the Peters Township Fire Department for programs such as providing smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers to help keep families safe.
