No one was injured in a fire that destroyed a garage Wednesday afternoon in Peters Township.
Peters Township Fire Department received a report of a conflagration about 3:30 p.m. at 130 Clara Lane. Deputy Chief David Caputo arrived at the scene five minutes after dispatch and confirmed a large detached garage storing equipment and combustibles was on fire.
North Strabane Township Fire Department also reported to the scene initially. On the way to the scene, Chief Michael McLaughlin of Peters Township saw a large column of smoke from more than a mile away and requested the assistance of Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Co. and Upper St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department.
The fire was brought under control within an hour. Firefighters were on the scene for three hours, extinguishing hot spots and performing overhaul.
Traffic on nearby Irishtown Road was impacted, with an Upper St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department official directing traffic around emergency vehicles.
In December, a fire at 131 Clara Lane claimed the life of Robert Gries, 84.
