Bethel Park

• Bethel Park School District elementary band teachers will hold a fourth-grade band open house for parents from 7 to 8 p.m. Sept. 24 in the music wing of Bethel Park High School, 309 Church Road.

Topics to be discussed include practicing tips, instrument care and how to tell if students are making the proper sounds with their instrument.

Parents are asked to bring their children’s instruments and music folders to the open house. Students are welcome to attend with their parents.

Upper St. Clair

• Three Upper St. Clair High School students – sophomore Skyler Bruno, senior Eden Auslander and 2019 graduate Sarah Price – recently became published authors. Their writings were among the top-rated submissions in the Ralph Munn Creative Writing Contest, sponsored by Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.

Skyler’s short prose, “Snapped Guitar Strings Can Be Repaired,” and poems from Eden and Sarah, “Analyzation of Procrastination” and “A Different Battle,” respectively, can be found within the “Ralph Munn Creative Writing Anthology 2019.” The anthology is available online as well as in hard copy at all Allegheny County public and school libraries.

All writers were invited to the Teen Media Awards, a special event celebrating the work of local teens Aug. 10. The creative writing contest awards first place winners in each category with $250 and second place winners with $100.

The Ralph Munn Creative Writing Contest is open to all high school students in Allegheny County. Entries are typically received from mid-March to mid-April. For more information, visit www.carnegielibrary.org/kids-teens/teenspace/ralphmunn or email ralphmunn@carnegielibrary.org.
