• State Rep. Natalie Mihalek, R-Upper St. Clair, announced that Peters Township School District will receive a $35,000 grant as part of Gov. Tom Wolf’s PAsmart Initiative.
The initiative provided $5.7 million in PAsmart Targeted grants to expand computer science classes and teacher training at 163 school districts, charter schools and intermediate units across the Commonwealth.
The targeted grants represent one component of the initiative, which will provide $20 million to bring high-quality computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education in elementary, middle and high schools, and professional development for teachers.
Upper St. Clair
• Kindergarten registration for incoming Upper St. Clair kindergarten students and their families will be held late March and early April at each of the district’s three elementary schools: Baker, March 24 and April 2; Eisenhower, March 25 and 31; Streams, March 26 and April 1.
Appointments, which last approximately 20 minutes, will be scheduled between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on each of the registration days. Online appointment scheduling begins in February.
Families will complete the registration process at the school in their attendance area and meet with school community members that may include the principal, teachers, school nurse, school counselor and parent association representatives. Incoming kindergarten students will complete a variety of readiness screenings and activities.
Registration packets, containing all of the necessary registration forms, will be available at the elementary schools beginning Feb. 18. Families are encouraged to obtain packets during school hours and return completed forms at the time of registration. When picking up packets, families will be asked for identification that includes home address in order to confirm elementary school assignment.
Students registering for kindergarten must be 5 years old by Sept. 1 to be enrolled for the 2020-21 school year. Proof of residency within the Upper St. Clair School District is required.
The district operates a half-day kindergarten program. The morning program is from 8:15 to 10:55 and the afternoon program, 12:05 to 2:45 p.m. A Kindergarten-Plus and before- and after-school programs are offered at each elementary school through Extended Day Services.
