Officials confer in front of the residence in Upper St. Clair where a man and his wife were found dead.

Two people were dead following a reported murder-suicide at a residence in the 100 block of Thousands Oaks Drive in Upper St. Clair.

According to Allegheny County police, a 67-year-old man called police in Upper St. Clair at 10:10 a.m. Aug. 24 to report he had just killed his wife and intended to kill himself. Officers of the South Hills Area Council of Governments Special Weapons and Tactics team entered the residence and found the man and his 54-year-old spouse deceased.

Both were pronounced dead at 12:26, and the responding officers requested the assistance of the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit, county police said.

Detectives learned the couple was recently estranged, and the woman had returned to the residence for personal effects when she was shot and killed, county police said.

Responding officers and SWAT team members did not hear any gunfire after arriving at the scene, according to police, and it is believed the male took his own life immediately after placing the phone call to Upper St. Clair.

Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477). Callers may remain anonymous.
