Pennsylvania Sports Writers named Chartiers Valley junior Aislin Malcolm the Class 5A Player of the Year for girls basketball. She was also named first-team on the 2021 All-State team.
A 5-11 junior, Malcolm led the Colts to a third straight WPIAL title and a PIAA runner-up finish.
She averaged 16.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game. She also cashed in on 65 3-point field goals.
For her career, Malcolm already has 1,270 points. A Pitt recruit, she also has sunk 197 3-pointers.
Perri Page joined Malcolm on the all-state squad. The junior earned second-team accolades.
A 6-0 junior, Page averaged 15 points and 11.3 rebounds per game for the Colts, who finished 25-4 this winter and set a state record with 64 consecutive victories.
A Columbia University prospect, Page also led the Colts in blocked shots. She dished up two assists and managed three steals a game.
Former CV head coach Spencer Stefko and his North Allegheny star Lizzy Groetsch, who scored 16.4 points per game and 7 rebounds, headlined the Class 6A list, grabbing Coach of the Year and Player of the Year honors, respectively. Stefko, who also coached at Seton LaSalle before jumping to NA, guided the Tigers to district and state titles as well as an undefeated section banner and a 27-1 overall record.
Olivia Westphal from Bethel Park and Ashleigh Connor from Mt. Lebanon joined Groetsch on the Class 6A all-state squad.
A three-time selection, this year as a first-team performer, Westphal averaged 24.7 points per game for the Black Hawks, who posted a 15-4 record.
A Duquesne recruit, Westphal finisher her career with 1,631 career points. She broke the single-game scoring record with 45 points in a Jan 21 win against Mars.
Connor moved up from third team to second team this season. A junior, she led Lebo in scoring with a 21.7-point average. She also managed 6.2 rebounds a game for the Blue Devils, who finished 17-4 overall after losing to North Allegheny in the district semifinals.
