Dalton Yates scored in overtime and led Upper St. Clair to victory, 8-7, over No. 3 North Allegheny in the WPIAL Class AAA boys' lacrosse playoffs.

The Panthers jumped off to a 3-0 advantage and held two goals edges, 5-3, and 7-5, after intermission and the third quarter before the Tigers evened the score in the fourth frame to force overtime.

The victory came on the heels of a 25-11 thrashing of Butler, 25-11, in the playoff opener.

Yates exploded for 10 goals and Ryan Buonomo chipped in seven scores to spearhead the Panther attack against the Golden Tornado.

With the wins, USC advanced to the semifinals to face No. 2 Mt. Lebanon at 7:45 p.m. May 22 at Bethel Park High School stadium. The Blue Devils beat No. 7 Seneca Valley, 17-7, in their quarterfinal match.

The other semifinals features top-seeded Peters Township against Shady Side Academy. After a first-round bye in the tournament, the Indians dispatched Fox Chapel, 11-6, in the quarterfinals.

NA ousts PT

Peters Township dropped a heartbreaker in overtime, 12-11, against North Allegheny in the first round of the WPIAL Class 3A girls’ lacrosse playoffs.

Avery Anderson’s second goal proved the difference for the Tigers. Isla Abrams, Mila Prusak and Leigh Failla each tallied three goals in the victory while Reagan Riordan also provided a score for NA.

Lani Filoon paced the Indians. She registered four goals, including her 50th of the season.

Emma Kail also had a four-goal performance and added an assist. Grace Kail picked up two goals and three assists. Addison Biondi completed the scoring while Ava Maloni collected an assist for the Indians.

After receiving first-round byes, No. 2 seeded Mt. Lebanon dispatched North Hills, 16-6, to move on to semifinal showdowns. The Blue Devils will battle Fox Chapel at 6 p.m. May 22 at Bethel Park.

The WPIAL championship matches are scheduled for May 24 and 25 at Joe Walton Stadium on the Robert Morris University campus.

In Class AA girls’ action, Quaker Valley edged Bethel Park, 11-10, and Hampton dispatched Seton LaSalle, 20-4, in Class AA boys’ first-round action.

Chartiers Valley opened defense of its AA title with wins against Greater Latrobe, 19-2, and Hampton, 10-7. The Lady Colts will face Mars at 6 p.m. May 22 at Shaler in the semifinals.
